Management team

Meet our Executive Board Members:

Jonathan Goring, Managing Director

Jonathan has been Managing Director of Capita Symonds since March 2007.

Formerly Executive Director of Capita Symonds’ Management division, Jonathan was a member of the Symonds management board when it was acquired by Capita in 2004. Prior to that he worked for Bovis, London & Metropolitan, RGCM and Mace where, at the age of 32, he successfully led BA’s £350m World Cargo Centre project.

He is a committee member of the Big Lottery Fund, and a trustee and director of Inventure Trust, a charity providing opportunities for disabled people to participate in the sport of sailing. He sits on the committee of the Royal Ocean Racing Club and is director of The Goring Hotel, London and The Spa Hotel, Tunbridge Wells.

 

Chris Booy OBE, Non-Executive Chairman

Chris Booy

Chris has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years.

Previously Executive Chairman of Symonds Group Ltd, he has a successful track record in obtaining and delivering a wide variety of major projects. Notable amongst these are the MoD Procurement Executive HQ at Abbeywood, Bristol and the new Wembley National Stadium. 

Chris is now the part-time Non-Executive Chairman of Capita Symonds and sits on its Executive Board. He is a Director of Dalkia and Chairman of Bristol Rugby and is also involved in a number of charities and institutions.

Archie Robertson OBE, Non-Executive Director

Archie Robertson

Archie is former Chief Executive of the Highways Agency and Director of Operations at the Environment Agency.

After playing a lead role in Capita Symonds’ bid for the Crossrail Delivery Partner role, Archie supports the Capita Symonds board in its corporate governance and strategic development of its programme management business on major international infrastructure projects.

Witha background in major project delivery at the Highways Agency, Archie spearheaded a shift of focus away from major capital projects and towards more cost-effective and sustainable intelligent transport management systems.

As Director of Operations at the Environment Agency from its inception in 1996 to 2003, he was responsible for major infrastructure including the Thames Barrier and building new flood defences throughout England and Wales.

Andrew Murray, Chief Operating Officer: Professional Services

Andrew Murray

Andrew is responsible for our Professional Services business which encompasses our Design, Management and Infrastructure divisions.

With over 25 years of experience in architecture and design in both the private and public sectors much of his career has been involved with major development, strategic planning, option appraisals and estate planning. Andrew is also Executive Director of our design division.

Graham Cowley, Chief Operating Officer: Partnership Businesses

Graham Cowley

Graham is responsible for our Partnership Businesses, building strategic partnerships with local government into successful private sector multidisciplinary consultancy businesses with wide ranging public and private sector clients. 

He has successfully developed a large number of groundbreaking public-private partnerships with local authorities to suit a range of required outcomes. He has significant experience of construction and maintenance contracts with responsibility for the management of large technical services organisations. 

Chris Green, Executive Director: Management (North)

Chris Green

Chris is responsible for Capita Symonds' Management business in the North, covering Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham, together with Capita Symonds’ Construction Management business, Woolf.

Chris has significant experience of both design and management businesses having previously led Capita Symonds cost management and building services disciplines.

Chris joined Capita through the acquisition of Beard Dove in 1994 as an assistant Quantity Surveyor in Sheffield, before taking over the Coventry office. After successfully merging our Coventry and Redditch offices, Chris took his first Board appointment, managing the North & Midlands region of Capita Property Consultancy.

Chris has specialist project experience in waste management, student accommodation, healthcare, education, residential and private sector development.

Mark Norris, Executive Director: Management (South)

Mark Norris

Mark is responsible for Capita Symonds’ Management South & International Division which provides real estate advisory, consultancy and management services to a wide range of sectors throughout the UK and International markets.

Mark joined the Capita Symonds Board in 2008 from HSBC Specialist Investments where he was European Investment Director in the private equity real estate business. Prior to joining HSBC in 2005, he was a member of the management board of Land Securities Trillium initially as Regional Director on its formation in 1997, and then as Head of New Business where he led the development of a number of major property transactions.  Mark’s earlier career involved positions the international engineering and energy industries with the Weir Group and Vivendi.

Mark is a graduate of Strathclyde University (BSc Hons) and Glasgow University (MBA with Distinction).

John Southgate, Executive Director: Infrastructure

John Southgate

John is Executive Director of Capita Symonds Infrastructure division and has over 20 years experience in the construction and engineering sector, including over 13 years spent within Capita. 

During this time he has had management positions within its QS, project management, environment, civils and transport teams and has introduced the company to new and expanding business areas. Experience in the rail sector has given him both major projects experience and a client-side perspective.

David Spencer, Executive Director: Partnership Businesses

Dave Spencer

David has a proven track record in motivating teams and the establishment of successful large scale partnerships with UK local authorities.

With over 15 years experience of supporting local government both as a consultant and as a Council Officer, David joined Capita as a TUPE transfer in February 2001 on the formation of the Blackburn with Darwen strategic partnership in Lancashire.

Since 2001, he has played a leading role in several of Capita’s local government partnerships, including Swindon, Blackburn, Cumbria and Urban Vision in Salford.

David is currently working with a wide range of authorities to establish innovative new PPP vehicles to meet their particular objectives, which include capacity building, service improvement, financial savings, and physical regeneration.

Tim Jennings, Finance Director

Tim Jennings

Tim is Finance Director for Capita Symonds, responsible for the financial management and control of the business.

Prior to joining Capita Symonds, Tim has held several divisional Finance Director posts within The Capita Group Plc since 1997, including Capita’s property businesses for several years. Tim originally joined Capita in 1991 as Deputy Group Financial Controller. Before that, Tim worked at Halpern & Woolf Chartered Accountants (now part of Baker Tilley), where he qualified in 1989.
