India is currently facing an unprecedented opportunity
to make its mark and become a major player on the global stage. As
a country it already has many of the ingredients which will help it
to realise its potential; a rich heritage, a culture of innovation
and an entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with one of the fastest
growing economies in the world. However, making the successful
transition to becoming a major global power is not without its
challenges.
Capita Symonds is committed to partnering with public and
private sector clients to help India address the issues it faces,
from the creation of an infrastructure backbone to act as a
catalyst for further economic growth, to providing schools and
hospitals that will provide everyone with access to quality
education and healthcare. We don’t believe in a one size fits all
approach. Instead, we combine market-leading expertise and
solutions with local knowledge, to deliver solutions which are
cutting edge, but most importantly embrace the unique culture and
society of India.
We have a bold vision to become the most respected construction,
engineering and technology consultancy in India. Not only will we
keep the nation at the forefront of innovation, we aim to export
the skills we develop here to other countries around the globe. To
achieve this Capita Symonds will invest in local Indian talent,
providing training and opportunities to enable staff to play a
central role in growing our business and making our Indian
operations a beacon of best practice.
We are currently undertaking a number of innovative and
unique projects that will draw the attention of the international
community and have a positive impact on the lives of local
residents. This includes schemes such as the Delhi PRT, Bus Rapid
Transit routes in Jaipur and Delhi, and the proposed Bangalore
metro, which will create cutting edge and more efficient urban
transit systems that will deliver greater accessibility and
connectivity. In Mumbai, our work to design the new Formula 1
track will create a global attraction that will also generate
economic and social benefits for the surrounding areas.
As a firm we recognise that one of the most critical success
factors will be our ability to deliver solutions which are
sustainable over the long term. Not only will these solutions need
to be commercially viable, they also need to be socially inclusive.
For example, with 70% of the Indian population living in rural
communities, it is critical that any approach creates greater
connectivity between these populations and India’s urban centres,
ensuring that no one is left behind. Whilst solutions, which
encourage a more low carbon way of living such as PRT and the
adoption of renewable energy sources, will ensure that India is
able to meet its 20-25% carbon reduction commitment by 2025.
